Stephen F. Austin State University is conveniently located in Nacogdoches, Texas, (approximately 20 miles north of Lufkin). Established in 1923, SFA has grown from a small teachers college into a regional university with a reputation for academic excellence.
Local College/Vocational School:
Angelina College is located on U.S. Highway 59 South in Lufkin, and was established to fulfill an educational need of the community; thus, the college's philosophy defines its excellence in all aspects of the college program. Lufkin ISD is located in the City of Lufkin. Central ISDis located in the northern portion of Angelina County. The district covers approximately 92 square miles nestled in a rural East Texas setting. Central ISD is the hub of the community of Pollok, Texas. Pollok is located six miles north of Lufkin, Texas, on U.S Highway 69 North.
Huntington ISDis a 3-A rural district nestled within 226 square miles of Angelina County and provides educational facilities and resources to meet the needs of more than 1622 students on 5 campuses.
Diboll ISD is located 10 miles south of Lufkin on U.S. Highway 59 South. There are over 1,700 students enrolled in this Class 3A school district. The district covers 71 square miles. Diboll, Texas is the center of the timber industry, with Temple-Inland offices and plants located here and pine trees being the main product of the area.
Hudson ISD is located on U.S. Highway 94 West, approximately 6 miles off the loop in Lufkin.
Zavalla ISD is located in the heart of East Texas in the small town of Zavalla. It is the southernmost city in Angelina County and is cradled amid a forest of giant pines, hardwoods, and streams and rivers. Zavalla is located ninety miles north of Beaumont and twenty-five miles south of Lufkin.
